Everyone loves to save a dollar or two where they can. I know I do and if you’re like me, you do too.
So when it comes to refinishing Formica laminate kitchen counters, we have a really great process that achieve a beautiful granite look for not a lot of money and everyone can do it! We’ve been refinishing countertops since 1996 and the transformation is always mind-blowing. (I still get excited every time I complete a project – I think you will too).
Over the years we have not only refined and found ways to improve the Countertop Transfauxmations process but also ways to save even more money when refinishing those old laminate counters. I’m all about saving cash and making sure the job is done right, so – HERE’S MY REALLY HOT TIP!
Valspar Sample Pots of Paint vs. a Quart of Paint
These are great! We recently started using Valspar sample pots of paint when creating new sample boards for our clients but realized that there is more than enough paint to refinish an average size laminate counter for those doing it themselves and following the Countertop Transfauxmations DVD.
The sample pots are available at Lowe’s/ Home Depot and come in 7.9 oz containers. A representative in the paint department will mix the sample pots to any color, no matter which brand you like to use (we like Benjamin Moore colors, but you can use whatever brand you prefer). The sample pots cost less than $3.00, compared to more than $12.00 for a quart of paint. Assuming you will use three colors to refinish your counters, you will save close to $30.00. How’s that for an economical tip? I love it!
Keep in mind, you are going to add glazing liquid, so you will have twice the volume and you use so little when creating a faux granite. Even if you run out, you can go back and purchase another $3.00 sample pot. Can’t beat that! Note: For the base color, you will purchase a regular quart size can of paint.
If you are not sure which colors to put together to achieve the perfect faux granite, be sure and check out all of our recipes at www.countertoptransfauxmations.com . We provide you with a shopping list of all materials with the Countertop Transfauxmations DVD, so be sure and keep the above information in mind when shopping for everything you need.
