Letter from Michaela, the “Countertop Makeover Expert”

Hello and thank you very much for visiting my website. How many times have you thought about painting those old kitchen/bathroom counters of yours for an inexpensive makeover? However, how many times have you been told, “You can’t paint a laminate countertop. It will chip off.” Countless, no doubt. You know how many times I have been told that, especially in the early days when no one else was doing this? I cannot begin to tell you. Eventually, I learned to say nothing and quietly got on with my business.

I am here to tell you, my process does work and many, many people are now using similar (but not the same) versions, including some VERY large Home Improvement shows on TV. That’s great, but do please be careful when following some directions!

TIP: It is not advisable to use toxic paints over your primer, e.g. oil based. In addition, oil based polyurethane will discolor your faux finish in a very short time. White painted counters become gold in just days.

I am sure you are concerned how my process holds up to wear and tear. All I can tell you is, I’ve had some very happy customers but I can whole heartedly vouch for my own experience. In our previous home, our countertop makeover lasted six years before we moved and as far as I know, is still going strong.
